1. Studying for the test: Make sure that you've memorized any definitions or formulas. Work problems in the review or practice test. For any problem types you cannot easily solve on the review assignment, go back to that homework section and rework some of those types of problems. Also, look back over your homework assignments and practice any other types of problems that were not covered in the review assignment.
2. When you get your test, immediately write down any formulas or memorized information you may need.
3. Read directions carefully and make sure to do all parts of each problem.
4. Solve the problems that are easiest for you first. This builds confidence and reduces anxiety and ensures that you won't run out of time to do the problems you know how to do.
5. If you get stuck on a problem, mark it and come back to it later. Working other problems may remind you of what to do.
6. Show all your work in an organized, neat manner: make it as easy as possible for the Instructor to see how much you do know. If your answer is incorrect, the Instructor may assign partial credit based on the work you show.
7. It is better to take a guess and show some work for a problem you are unsure about than to leave it blank so you have a chance of earning some points for the problem.
8. Ask questions during the test if you are confused about the wording or directions of a question.
9. When you've finished all the questions, look over your test. Make sure you've answered all parts of each question. Check your answers using checking methods such as substituting a value found into a given equation or multiplying factors if you can. Look for careless mistakes such as making sure that you copied numbers correctly, that you put negative signs where needed, and that your arithmetic is correct. If you have time, redo problems on a separate sheet of paper and see if you come up with the same answers. Sometimes people don't see their own errors when looking at their work so reworking the problem on another sheet may help you find any mistakes.
10. Use all the allowed test time. It is not a race-you don't win anything for finishing first!
