Searching for the Successful Online Student
The Adventure Begins...

Welcome to the world of online education. You are about to face a challenge. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to gather information about the Successful Online Student. Along the way, you will encounter many tasks. The completion of each task will result in a clue which will help you to build a profile of the Successful Online Student.

As you gather these clues, you will become more aware of what it takes to successfully handle an online class. And if that's not enough, this adventure is also designed to help you assess your computer skills and knowledge before you sign up for an online or online-supplemented class. Teachers and researchers know that, almost more than any other factor, your ability to use the computer and the Internet will affect your success in the online learning environment.

? How will this site tell me if I'm ready to take an online class?
If you get terribly frustrated during this adventure or if it takes you more than 30 minutes to do, you can probably assume that your computer and Internet skills need some brushing up before you sign up for an online class.  So, take a glance at a clock when you begin this hunt, and keep track of how long it takes you to get to the end.		 away2.png

As you go through this hunt, you'll be required to do tasks which online instructors will also require of you:
· Use a search engine to find information on the World Wide Web;
· bookmark the site you find;
· Type and save a short paragraph in a word processor while your browser is open;
· Scroll left and right within a website;
· download and view a File;
· Click on and navigate within an image on a webpage; and,
· Write and send an e-mail with an attachment and the copied and pasted address of the website you bookmarked.

In each step, read all instructions before beginning, as you will need to be multi-tasking.

As you are going through the hunt, you'll be picking up clues about the attributes of a successful online learner; you'll incorporate these clues into the final e-mail message that you send.

When you encounter an underlined word, that word is hyperlinked to a glossary which will define that word for you. Clicking the mouse on that word will open a small window which contains the definition of the word.
